This is the website of The Pukka Chukkas, the world's favourite elephant polo team and the UK's sole representative in the World Championships.
The 30th WEPA World Elephant Polo Championships will take place in Meghauli, Southern Nepal, at the end of November 2011 and run for a week - teams from across the globe compete, with last years champions, EFG Switzerland, likely to be hot favourites to sucessfully defend their title.
Ratified by the Nepalese Olympic Committee, the World Championships are the largest sporting event in Nepal, and raise considerable amounts of money for elephant welfare and other conservation & charitable projects in the region, with the finals attracting crowds of up to 10,000 from across Nepal. TV and other press coverage stretches from China to Argentina, and The Pukka Chukkas have been spotted on TV across the globe!
The Pukka Chukkas MS Bicycle Polo Cup (an International Open tournament) will also be held at Meghauli during WEPA, specifically raising money for Tiger Conservation through the wonderful work done by the ITNC. The bicycles we buy for the tournament are donated to local villages and the ITNC, who use them to set and monitor camera traps across the Chitwan National Park.
The 2011 Pukka Chukkas have been chosen after rigourous isometric and physical training and we are delighted that our team remains unchanged from 2010, the first time in our history that we have fielded the same side two years in a row!

In time honoured tradition, we will be gathering at the Dwarikas Hotel in Kathmandu and then heading down to Tiger Tops around the 25th November - any of our supporters who are in Kathmandu are welcome to join us for a drink in the courtyard of the Dwarikas!
